The red in this room rather than history, makes the first impression. The Red Room is often used as a sitting room and reception. During the presidency of President Thomas Jefferson (1801-1809), this room was known as the "President's Antechamber", the room next to his office and set aside for those with appointments with the president. In the 19th century, this room was known as a Music Room. If you look carefully to the right of the fireplace you will notice the music stand.
